Your Name Is a Business. Let's Build It.

NIL

Student-athletes can now earn from their name, image, and likeness. But most NIL conversations stop at the deal. Who is reviewing the contract? Who is structuring the income? Who is making sure this opportunity builds something that lasts beyond the playing field?

Mickey Law Group takes a different approach to NIL. We don’t just review agreements. We help student-athletes build a legal and business foundation that turns short-term opportunities into long-term assets.

We have seen athletes sign deals that looked great upfront but locked them into terms that limited future opportunities. The right legal guidance before you sign can be the difference between building wealth and giving it away.

Beyond Compliance: Building Your Business

NIL is not just about staying eligible. It is about building a business foundation that lasts beyond your playing career.

At Mickey Law Group, we help student-athletes:

  • Form the right business entity. LLCs, corporations, and other structures designed to manage NIL income, and protect personal assets.

  • Structure contracts for long-term value. Not every deal is a good deal. We review and negotiate NIL agreements to make sure the terms protect your interests and your future earning potential.

  • Build a real business plan. Your name, image, and likeness are assets. We help you treat them that way, with strategic planning that extends well beyond your time as a student-athlete.

  • Protect your brand. Trademark protection, licensing agreements, and brand management so what you build today belongs to you tomorrow.

We are not just reviewing deals. We are helping you build your future.

Staying Eligible While You Earn

NIL rules vary by state and are still evolving. What is permitted depends on your school, your state, and your conference. Mickey Law Group stays current on the regulatory landscape so you do not have to.

We help you understand what is allowed, what to avoid, and how to remain in full compliance while maximizing your earning potential.

Built for Athletes Who Think Like Business Owners

Our NIL clients are student-athletes who understand that what they are building today will shape what they have tomorrow. They are serious about protecting their name, structuring their income, and making decisions that reflect where they want to be, not just where they are now.

We also work with parents and families who want to make sure their student-athlete has the right legal guidance as they navigate NIL opportunities for the first time.

Mickey Law Group serves NIL clients nationwide. You do not have to be in Houston or Texas to work with us.

FAQ

1 / What is NIL?

NIL stands for Name, Image, and Likeness. It refers to the ability of student-athletes to earn compensation from their personal brand, including endorsement deals, sponsorships, social media partnerships, appearances, and licensing agreements.

2 / Do I need a lawyer for an NIL deal?

You are not required to have a lawyer, but you should. NIL contracts contain exclusivity clauses, compensation structures, and legal obligations that can affect your eligibility, your future earning potential, and your personal liability. Having an attorney review the terms before you sign protects you from agreements that may not be in your best interest.

3 / Can I lose my eligibility by signing an NIL deal?

It is possible if the deal violates your school’s policy or your state’s NIL law. Rules vary by state and are still evolving. Mickey Law Group helps you understand what is permitted and structure deals that keep you in compliance.

4 / Should I set up an LLC for NIL income?

In most cases, yes. An LLC separates your personal assets from your business income and gives you a professional structure for managing contracts and payments. We help student-athletes set up the right entity based on their situation.

5 / How much does it cost to work with Mickey Law Group on NIL?

We offer flat-fee packages for NIL services so you know your costs upfront. Pricing depends on the scope of work. Schedule a consultation and we will walk you through your options.

6 / Do I have to be in Houston or Texas to work with you?

No. Mickey Law Group serves NIL clients nationwide. Whether you attend school in Texas, California, Florida, or any other state, we can help.

7 / My child just received an NIL offer. What should we do first?

Do not sign anything until it has been reviewed by an attorney. Schedule a consultation and we will review the offer, explain the terms, and advise you on whether the deal is structured in your child’s best interest.
